Types of Industrial Zones
Zones Urbaines Sensibles (ZUS)
Zones Urbaines Sensibles (ZUS) are zones that are characterised by the presence of Housing Projects or by low grade housing .There is also an imbalance between the number of people living there and the percentage in employment.
These zones incorporate Zones de Redynaminations Urbaines (ZRU) and Zones d'Aménagement du Territoire (ZAT).
Zones d'Aménagement du Territoire (ZAT)
Zones d'Aménagement du Territoire (ZAT) are zones characterised by poor economic development and a lack of industrial materials as well as the problems the constitue a ZUS.
Zones de Redynamisations Urbaines (ZRU)
Zones de Redynamisations Urbaines (ZRU) are designed to regenerate industry and employment in the ZUS's. To stimulate companies to set up in these areas there are many benefits offered by the French Government.
Zones Franche Urbaines (ZFU)
Since 1996 Zones Franche Urbaines (ZFU) have offered another opportunity to revieve tax relief by stteing up enterprises in what is seen as rundown areas of once large industrial towns, there are 44 quarters seleceted throughout France.
The criteria for selction is based on firstly the population and secondly the percentage of unemployed above the national rate of unemployment. There must be more than 10.000 habitants and the rate of unemployed is 25% greater than the national average. Next they look at the percentage of young people, more than 36% and those over &( without diplomas and finally that the monthly income is less than FF 3.800 per habitant. Because of the nature of these areas there are many benefits to be gained.
